Palm teams with Jonze, Gondry and Cunningham for DVD specials
Jeremy Kay in Los Angeles 25 February 2003 04:00
Chris Blackwell’s Palm Pictures is teaming up with acclaimed directors Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham on a series of DVDs featuring a collection of music videos, shorts and commercials hand-picked by the film-makers, along with storyboards, alternate versions and unseen short films. Releases from the three directors will be out in August, with more directors set to join the series. Jonze, whose work features the Oscar-nominated pictures Adaptation and Being John Malkovich, initially established himself as a music video director and has worked with Fat Boy Slim, Bjork and The Beastie Boys, among others. French-born Gondry’s music video career has seen him work with Radiohead and The Rolling Stones, while Cunningham has collaborated with Portishead and Aphex Twin.
“Michel [Gondry] and I have been talking about this forever,” Jonze said in a statement. “A couple of years ago we talked to Chris, which got us motivated. I’m so excited we’re finally getting it together.” Palm founder Blackwell added in a statement: “I have long admired the work of Spike, Chris and Michel and feel this DVD series is the perfect way to release all of the best work from a new generation of talented and influential film-makers.” The DVDs will be released in the US through Palm’s domestic distribution deal with WEA. The series will be released throughout the rest of the world in early 2004.
Do you remember April 20, 1999 as the day the US (NATO) raided Belgrade, Yugoslavia? The overnight raid there and in surrounding areas killed many innocent civilians, as part of our “War on Kosovo”. But you probably remember that day as the day of the shootings at Columbine.
The media focused so much attention on the Columbine shootings (which coincidentally occurred a day after the anniversaries of both the Waco and Oklahoma City “tragedies” and was the same day as Hitler’s birthday) that we all forgot about the war in Kosovo.
Now I’d like for you to think about our current situation. First, the media is swarming with talks of war and preparations for terrorism. Then, all of a sudden, there is a stampede in a Chicago night club. Days later, a fire breaks out at a Great White concert in Rhode Island. And then reports that the roof collapsed at a Toys R Us in Maryland (yes, that was on national news). I haven’t seen a war/slash terrorism report since.
Coincidence?
i’m back on campus again this term, M and W (thank god i still have T and Th online). i’m hating it already. these people are too much for me.
6 weeks to go. 6 weeks to go. 6 weeks to go……..
Oh Atlanta, I sure do miss you. Yesterday, Dan and I went somewhere and we passed a synagogue and counted 17 orthos! Are yours still hybernating? If so, you can have mine. And today we saw a yamaka (I don’t really know how to spell that word) that was purple and it matches Dan’s hair. How cute. And there was this girl in the bathroom at the third st. promenade in Santa Monica that asked me for a tampon and I didn’t have one. She said, “They really ought to put tampon machines in these bathrooms. There are a lot of homeless girls out here and, you know, our periods just start.” I almost asked her if she was hooked on heroin too. And, um, I can’t wait to talk to you. My phone is off for a little while ‘cuz I keep over-using my minutes. I’m giving it a rest for awhile.. Ok I love ya. Happy Valentines Day to you.
oh, this is cute too
here’s a little survey from AOL News regarding the “Ready Campaign”:
i just love my choices. it’s a black and white world i tell ya.
america, are you prepared?
so my current rant about the government started about 2 weeks ago when i decided to check out a little television (general hospital). now, i like to keep my self as far removed from the american general public as possible, getting my news soley from internet headlines or theresa weekends at the naro, but every few months i indulge in a bit of afternoon GH.
during my last intake of television, i was presented with a news update informing me that the nation was under “orange alert”, just one step below “red alert”. needless to say, i was absolutely appalled that this was being announced on national television. way to go, you’re really making people feel safe now. mass hysteria, anyone?
then i hear from kristina that headline news is advising the country to stock up on plastic sheeting and duct tape to prepare for the immenent biological warfare.
so i go off and rant to close friends about the bullshit of this country, just as irritated as can be by the state of things. the people in power are making all these ridiculous decisions then trying to scare the public into believing that they are the right decisions. the mass-media is just a tool for governmental brainwash. it’s absolutely infuriating.
and tonight i see the best article thus far. just some AP article by a guy called john j lumpkin (cute) entitled Feds Launch Terror Readiness Campaign. apparantly homeland security secretary tom ridge has launched the “Ready Campaign” “for a nation still on high alert for terrorism.” “They said they crafted the campaign to avoid scaring people while providing some commonsense ideas that will help families find and care for each other if normal services aren’t available for a few days because of an attack. This includes keeping a three-day supply of water, food and medicine, Ridge said. Among other things, the government-recommended ”kit” also includes duct tape and plastic sheeting.”
here’s the best part - “the Homeland Security effort will include television announcements and fliers that will be distributed with phone directories.” “One billboard will be going up in Times Square in New York City later this month.” real low key, huh?
the article also quotes ridge as saying, “the ‘orange’ level high-risk alert was really meant more for law enforcement than for regular citizens.” but, it was on national television at 3:00 in the afternoon. if it was just meant for law enforcement, why not just fax them a memo?
So, i urge you all to visit Ready.gov and make sure you are prepared for terrorism!!!!!
soulmates????
i’m IM’img with james and i mentioned that i was listening to Kiss Me x3 and he is listening to it too. then he starts “singing” one of the songs (how beautiful you are) and that’s the exact same song i’m on!!! we must of both put the album on at the same moment. isn’t that soooo weird?!?!?!
