I just read last night that they have started production on Memoirs of a Geisha. It stars Zhang Ziyi (Ziyi Zhang) as Sayuri and Gong Li (Li Gong) as Hatsumomo.
I’m not sure what to think. I’m kind of excited, kind of worried. I absolutely adored the book, but I’m afraid of what Hollywood will do to it.
They are already off to a bad start.
First of all, they are casting all these (wonderful) Chinese actresses for Japanese parts. That’s just rude.
And it’s being directed by Rob Marshall, who’s only other movie is Chicago.
The poster looks really nice though, I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. They are expecting a December 2005 release.

OOOHHH! I loved this book too!! I hope they don’t screw it up like they are the Di Vinci Code! I love that book too and they put Tom Hanks as the lead!! Just not right!!
