It’s been a long time coming, Martin, but here’s that Cure mix we talked about oh so long ago. I figured with the gloomy weather today, and your entries as of late, that it was about time.

For those of you who don’t know Martin, this is a boy crazy for love and heartache. I’d say he revels in it. So I’ve selected for him some of my favorite mopey Cure love songs. They’re so great, they make me long for depression. :-)

If you’d like to download them to your crappy iTunes, but don’t know how, just let me know.

The Cure for Martin
  1. Fascination Street*
  2. Open
  3. Sinking
  4. Kyoto Song
  5. From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea
  6. Prayers For Rain
  7. If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
  8. Last Dance
  9. The Same Deep Water As You
  10. Apart
  11. The Kiss
  12. Disintegration
  13. To Wish Impossible Things
  14. Homesick
  15. End

* - from my favourite Carlos D interview, “Simon Gallup is my sort of punk rock, playing with the pick and digging into the low E string, really chugging away. ‘Fascination Street’ is a good example of that. It’s one of the most badass basslines ever written.”

ps - I realised today that I can’t listen to the Cure very well through headphones. I need to be able to sing along at the top of my lungs. This has been tough.

  1. Ooh…

    “The Kiss”

That’s one of my favorite instrumentals ever.

  2. You rocked my world, Atlanta! It’s just the pick-me-up I needed. It took me all weekend to get through every song since I was so busy, but the payoff was well worth it. My interest in The Cure has tripled. I’m so very looking forward to the PJ Harvey mix next.

Ditto on the awesome bassline on Fascination Street.

    Thanks a bunch!

  3. Julio used “Fascination Street” when teaching a friend how to play bass. It’s a universal bass fave I guess.
