“A.M.” and “P.M.” doesn’t really bother me. I actually prefer to use “am” and “pm”, but that’s because I’m a fan of the lowercase. The upper is just too harsh to me.
I have been conscious of “a lot” and “all right” since a 3rd grade spelling test. I will sometimes write “alright”, but I generally catch it and fix it.
Misspelled words and inaccurate use of apostrophes in general irritate me. Don’t people proofread anymore?
I hate the misuse of “there”, “their”, and “they’re”.
I hate words misspelled on purpose for cuteness. “Nite” and “Kwik” for example. Aren’t people stupid enough on their own? We don’t need society encouraging it.
I also hate it when animals encourage carnivorism.
On those two notes, The Chick-Fil-A campaigns send me into a fit of rage. Illiterate cows telling me to eat chickens? No thanks.

“alright” is in the dictionary as a nonstandard adverb. Both spellings are accepted these days.

well, so is “ain’t”, but that doesn’t mean it is the proper usage of the word. as the english language evolves (and dumbs down), poor little merriam-webster has to keep up.

I applaud your efforts. I’m glad I’m not the only one freaking out about incorrect grammar. It’s lonely sometimes!

Just about all of the English that you are speaking today is a dumbed down version from somewhere along the line. That’s how language evolves.
When an incorrect spelling like “alright” gets too common to control it becomes an accepted part of the language. I like that language is changeable according to how common people use it. It makes sense.

well i’d rather not be associated with common people.
i have an education and i intend on using it, all right?
Comment by iso.bot • July 31, 2006 @ 2:21 pm
Yeah, and the common people would too if education were less expensive. So, if you are really bothered by it then maybe it’d be wiser to blame the human rights abusers in power, the ones that allow such a high cost for education. If you don’t educate people, they’ll make their own language. If there are more uneducated people than educated people, the proper language will change, alright?

It’s over 100° here. I’m hot. I’m irritable. Neither of us has ever been good at conceding. Let’s just drop it.
The rant was meant for Dee-Love anyways.
