Poor little elbow. No matter where I go, a damn bug will find me.

Enjoyed a much overdue visit with Maria. She came over after work and I showed her around my pee-stained, disaster area of a house. We sat around and talked movies and music and had a really nice time. She told me a funny story of Genny’s new kid (i can’t ever remember his name, michael i think) eating rabbit poop and having to go to the emergency room. Ewwww!

Drove up to Richmond for a slumber party with Indreia. Another visit that was long overdue. We had an absolute blast. We went out to dinner at Su Casa, which is now my new favorite mexican restaurant. I look forward to eating there again.
Then we stopped by the store and proceeded to buy 35 beers. Our eyes were a little bigger than our tolerance level, ahahah. They had a Saranac pumpkin which I had to get, and 2 new Magic Hats I hadn’t heard of. We stayed up all night long getting drunk and visiting and listening to good music.
The next day we went to Ellwood for veggie burgers. Yummmmm. God I love those things. After that we went to Anthill, which is one of my favorite stores in Carytown, but I always forget about it because it’s way up at the beginning. I’m always destined to find treasures there.
This time around I ended up with two really awesome new lamps. One is made from an old telephone, the other made from an old table-top mixer. It looks like it came straight out of Jeunet’s City of Lost Children. I also ended up with a pretty damn good condition portable movie screen which was terribly exciting because Julio and I have been specifically looking for one of those. And the bonus find - a record holder. Especially nice since the one I found at Target didn’t even hold records. False advertising.
I met up with CvT later that day and met his cute new kitty, Chingu. He’s a wild one. We went back up to Carytown for a little Plan 9 shopping, of course. I told him I wasn’t allowed to buy much because I had just spent tons at Anthill, but 16 new cds later…

Happy Birthday to Me!
Julio and I drove down to Chapel HIll to visit with Osiris and Alison and to go see the Dresden Dolls in Raleigh. The four of us had dinner at a place called Acme. We had the most delicious appetizer of pumpkin raviolis topped with goat cheese, pecans, and pomegranate seeds.
Osiris went with us to the show. We got there just as the Red Paintings were ending. We only had to wait around for about 20 minutes for the show, which was nice. They played a really good set, and I love their stage presence and audience interactions, but the show was just too damn long. They played for over 2.5 hours. It would have been fine if it was a sit down show, or a dance your ass off show, but just standing against a wall for that long watching two people play was a bit much for all of us. We were quite ready to go home.

Alison took off work to hang out with us the next day, yippeeee! We made the obligatory stops at Whole Foods and Weaver St (where jared found for me still another pumpkin ale - edenton brewing company - they just keep coming this year), and then she took us to a really awesome gallery/store called Wootini. They had some really precious art work on display and some great toys. I haven’t been paying too much attention to the toy scene now that I don’t have an office I need to decorate.
I got this really great one called Sweet Tooth from the Good Wood Gang series. They had David Horvath’s new creatures, but no Evil Ice Cream. I’m always keeping my eye out for them.
As I was walking to the book section I spied issues #1 and #3 of Hi Fructose. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Those magazines always sell out immediately and are hard to find anywhere online. And there they were, sitting on a rack in perfect condition. I had to swallow my excitement so that I didn’t explode in the store, but you can bet I grabbed both of them right away and wasn’t letting go.
I had mentioned to Julio on the way in that 2 new Camille Rose Garcia books had been published that I had not gotten yet. Wootini had them both (can you imagine the love I was radiating for this place?). Jules bought me the one on her work, and I got myself the one that she wrote.
I also found a precious new bag there that I wouldn’t let Alison buy for me. Alison, you are already generous enough, and I always have so much fun when I come down to see you guys. I can’t wait for the next 506/Cat’s Cradle show!
After a rainy morning of flexing my shopping skills, we met up with Charlotte and Dan at the Hidden Temple. The gang gave me a beautiful picture of Kyler holding a bird which Jules is going to frame for me. We all had a delicious lunch at Carrburritos and then Jared and I headed home in the yucky rain.

Happy Birthday, Sweet Charlotte!
Sunday was my last day to hang out with my beloved Rob and Carrie. They leave for Portland before I get back from Hawaii.
I love you guys so hard and I know that we will see each other again soon. Immense hugs and kisses for real. (and to Sam and Lu since I didn’t get to see them) Wob, I look forward to our date.

Off to Hawaii…
Phew! It’s been a whirlwind of fun lately. Let’s see if I can remember it all…

Went down to Chapel Hill to see One Self at Local 506 with Alison and stayed the night with her and Osiris. Coincidentally, Daniel Valentine, Keirsten, and Carrie were down at the same time so we all got to play.
O, Alison, and I had dinner at supposedly brightly-lit Mexican restaurant where they had $1.99 margaritas. After dinner we went over to the Charlotte and Nicole compound and tasted the variety of beers we had just purchased.
The One Self show was great. I never even imagined seeing them live so it was such a treat. I’ve been in love with DJ Vadim for over a decade. Blu Rum wasn’t able to make the show, he had a wedding to attend, but Yarah Bravo did just fine on her own. One of the opening acts, Social Memory Complex, was a lot of fun too. Very Hieroglyphics-ish. Unfortunately they only had an LP available, and I wasn’t in the mood to buy a record, so I didn’t get to take any of their music home.
The next day I did a bit of grocery shopping and then met up with the Carrboro/Norfolk gang for lunch at a yummy vietnamese restaurant. I had veggie stuffed tofu simmered in a tomato sauce over rice. It was really delish and I long to have a kitchen again.
Many hugs and oubursts of love followed and I had a beautiful drive home. Fall is by far the most awesomest time of the year.

Drove up to Charlottesville area to see Crystal and go to Dave’s art show at Michele’s yoga studio. It was a surprise visit and I had such a good time sitting around and laughing with them. Crystal lives in Palmyra which is about a 20 minute country drive from Scottsville where Meech and Dave are. The ride home after the show was exciting. It’s soooo dark and sprawling out there and we could see every star in the sky. Plus lots of road-side animals. Live ones.
I did a little bit of Plan 9 shopping while there and left Friday afternoon only to return the next day.
Sat, Oct 14th
OJ and I headed back up to Charlottesville to see Del at Starr Hill. We met up with Crystal, Graham, and Jeff Piper at the show.
The 1st opening act was a guy called BukueOne. I wasn’t all that crazy for him, but his DJ was a guy called Zac Hendrix, and oh boy was he a hottie. He looked and acted just like Brandon Saunders. Yum.
He was the DJ for both Bukue and Del, so I decided to wait ’til Del came on to take pictures of him.

The second act was Mike Relm, who was on the stage for all of about 30 seconds before I completely fell in love with him. Chair, this guy was amazing and I can’t wait to play his cd for you over and over when we are in Iceland. He made me think of Kid Koala instantly. He mixed dvds in with his set and did a perfect mix of Human Behavior. (this is crystal’s video. that is my camera that sneaks in in the middle of it. i didn’t realize she was recording, ahaha.)
I bought his cd after the show and had him autograph it for me. He seems to be obsessed with all the right stuff. There is a whole section of it dedicated to Danny Elfman!
After the Mike Relm set ended I had to move to the back of the club. The crowd there was just so unbearable. It was my first ever bad experience at Starr Hill. All of the asshole UVA frat boys were there, presumably to see the Gorillaz. I was confused when I first bought the tickets, because they said “Del (Gorillaz, Hieroglyphics)”. I couldn’t comprehend how all of them would be touring together. But then I realized they really meant “Del, of the Hieroglyphics and Gorillaz”. That way they could sell a bunch of tickets to frat boys who loved Gorillaz. And it worked.
In addition to drunk frat boys (and i mean about-to-pass-out-grabbing-girls’-asses-eyes-half-closed-swaying-all-about drunk assholes), there were stinky hippie hop kids. You know who I mean. The dread kids who smoke ganja and listen to hip hop and bathe in patchouli and only patchouli.
Best part of all, the hippie hops and the frat boys all seemed to be friends with the “security” guards. OJ and I were actually asked to move so some stinky hippies could pseudo break dance on the floor. I was so pissed and asked why I had to lose my place just so they could dance, and the little Napoleon security guard just pointed to his shirt that said security. That was what sent me over and made me go towards the back.
Del came on immediately after Mike Relm. I think they said that Motion Man was sick at the hotel or something. Piper had mentioned that he asked BukueOne if Del was playing “If You Must”, and he said he had been, so he was quite anxious for that. I would have loved to hear “Eye Examination”, but wasn’t expecting it at all. It’s such a random track, a really old b-side.
But then guess what got played? Yes! Eye Examination! It was only the first part of the song, but I was still totally excited.
| I tried to sneak up front a few times to get a few Del and Zac Hendrix pics, but I just couldn’t stand to be anywhere near those people. I had a much better time standing in the back drinking beers and dancing with Crystal. | ![]() { mamastal } |

Crystal, Jared and I hit up Jefferson Vinyards first thing for a wine tasting. I was specifically looking for half bottles of Virginia wines, but who can resist a wine tasting? After that we had sandwiches at a little shop across the street that Meechie loves and we headed to the Carter Mountain Orchard for some apple pickin’ and pumpkin viewin’.
The place was crawling with humans, so we found a secluded part of the mountain to hide out in. It was pretty fun walking through rows and rows of apple trees. I think I maybe picked one apple. OJ filled the bag pretty quickly and I was more interested in my camera anyways (as usual).
Afterwards Crystal had to go pick up Malena so OJ and I headed to Charlottesville to wait out the day. We walked around the Downtown Mall and ended up watching The Science of Sleep. We had dinner at a cute little Ethiopian place and then made our way back to Starr Hill to see P.O.S.

He was an opening act for some hipster indie band called Minus the Bear. Creed. Whatever. The crowd consisted of mostly teenagers and young kids whose moms stood in the back and waited for them. Totally different from the assholes the night before.
We had to wait out two opening acts before P.O.S. came on. The two young girls that were in front of us switched places with us when he did come on so that we could be right up front. They were so cute and I got really protective of them and wouldn’t let anyone steal their spots, ahaha.
The show was really good and he played all the right songs and interacted so well with the audience. It was hilarious. “Oh no! A rapper?!?!” “Raise your hand if this is the first time you’ve ever been to a hip hop show.” Cuteness.
We got out of there as soon as he was off the stage. It had been such a long weekend and we were exhausted and had a 3 hour drive to look forward to. My bed that night was the best it’s been in so long.
Stay tuned for part two…
For those that may doubt Shady’s pure and absolute hatred for Jared, I give you this.
Poor Clancy Boff. Julio does cruel things to her and Atlanta insists on capturing them.
ahahhahah, I’m the goddess of the two things I desire the least.
i think maybe i stole your husband.

You are Frigg! Frigg is the goddess of childbirth and marriage. She is the wife of Odin and highest in rank of the goddesses. She is called the mother of the Gods. Frigg is as wise as Odin but is more reserved and shy. She’s very rational and people come to her for advice.

You are Freya! Freya is the godess of love and fertility. Freya lives in the beautiful Folkvang [battlefield] and each day she chooses half of the slain warriors to split with Odin. She had a husband named Od, whom she somehow lost and cried golden tears for. Many believe Od is Odin. Freya’s chariot is drawn by male cats and she owns the precious Brisings’ necklace, which she slept with four dwarves to acquire. She also owns a feather coat which she could use to fly between the worlds. Freya is the most beautiful of all godesses in Valhalla, and she is not afraid to use her beauty and charm to get her way. She is also a loving and sensual person who believes in the good in people. She is known to be somewhat “easy” though, but she’d probably say that’s part of being the godess of love.
