Time Capsule

The new floor is finally underway. We spent all of Sunday and Monday night laying the cement board backer layer for the tile. Today we started tiling, and got as far as we could until our brand new wet saw broke and we had to wrap it up and return it to the store. :-(

I work tomorrow evening and Jared Thursday evening, but we are hoping for eventful mornings. The actual tile placing took a lot longer than I expected. The kitchen is still waiting on the guy to come and run a gas line for our new stove. And we need to get the refrigerator out, other than that it is ready to go.

Last night after a long day of floor work, we went to the Teeter and I got myself a cheese calzone. I went home and cooked it up, sat down to a movie, cut into it and… it had pepperoni in it! Boooooo.

Today after another long day of tile laying, we went back to the Teeter and I exchanged that calzone for a new cheese calzone. Again, I sat down to eat it and watch a scary movie and when I cut into it… pepperoni!

Damn the Teeter and the pepperoni goblins!

Now I’m having wine and fruit for dinner. Much healthier. :-)

If I didn’t have kitties that like to pee all over every surface, I would totally want these piled in a corner.

Sykurmolarnir

Despite the travel experience from hell, the Sugarcubes show was completely amazing and wonderful and fun and worth every second.

I had my doubts beforehand. The thought of going to a “reunion” show made me feel old. Like parents going to a Rolling Stones concert. I’m too young for that. And Björk seemed too old to be singing Sugarcubes songs. Her voice has matured a lot in those 20 years and I couldn’t imagine her hitting those notes anymore.

But I was wrong.

The crowd was like any other Björk show. Young and fashionable. Actually, it was quite an interesting experience. I’ve never been in that situation before. Thousands of people from all over the world all gathered together in one tiny space just for a concert. All with that one little thing in common. Band love.

It was interesting to see Reykjavik taken over by foreigners. We saw the same people all weekend. At the airport, at the show, at Sirkus. Reykjavik was invaded.

Múm
The show couldn’t have been better. Múm was the 1st opening act, followed by Rass.

Múm’s got a new line up and a bit of a new sound. A lot flirtier. It was unexpected but quite enjoyable. I look forward to hearing what they are up to in the studio.

The Sugarcubes looked great and sounded great. They seemed to be having such a fun time. It didn’t seem forced at all. Their energy was amazing. So in sync.

And Björk’s voice was spot on. She sounded just as she did all those years ago. I was impressed.

Half of the show was in Icleandic which I thought was quite a treat. Einar talked a lot in between songs but I have no idea what he was saying.

Towards the end, he was introducing the band members and he called two of them “Keith Moon” and “Brian Jones” and I found that particularly funny since I had been comparing them to old bands all week.

Sykurmolarnir - Luftguitar
The best part of the show was when they played “Luftgítar” as the final encore with Johnny Triumph and two boys on electric guitar (children of the band). That has always been one of my favorite songs. I love when cute little Magga comes out from behind the keyboard.

The whole show was recorded so we can hope for an eventual DVD release.

I’ve got a couple of videos up on the forever crappy YouTube.

Here’s the setlist:

Now that I’m back from Iceland I feel that I have some time to catch up on life. October and November contained a lot of fun, but also a lot of traveling.

Sampling The New Tile
Last night I picked up the new tile for my kitchen. I can’t wait to get started, hopefully Sunday. I need to go out and get the backer board and a second float, but other than that all the supplies are already bought.

It was pretty funny to see my car loaded down with boxes and boxes of tile. It made the back go so low to the ground and it wasn’t easy to drive.

I couldn’t wait to get home and sample a box.

As for cd shopping, I’ve been carrying around a list for weeks now of things I need to acquire. Fall always brings a crop of good new releases. I finally had to sit down last night and get it all ordered. If you’ve ever witnessed me shop for cds, whether in person or online, then you know it’s quite a sight. Takes hours. There is a lot of research and sampling and price comparing involved.

After about 3 hours, I ended my night with orders placed for 5 new books, 30 new cds, 3 new dvds, and a bracelet. Phew! That should occupy me for the next month. (And you, for it means new mixes!)

The show was completely amazing. When we first got in, we went to our assigned seats. There was no choice in seats when you bought the tickets, you just got whatever they gave you. We were at the top and when we got up there, we saw that the whole downstairs was open, standing only. I was so upset. The trip had already started off so bad, and then to get here and think I had to sit in some high seat the whole time. Unacceptable.

We went downstairs to ask about the standing room only section, and then learned that we could stand there if we wanted to. TITS!

Múm was the opening act, how amazing is that? They had two new girls with them, and they were a bit “poppier” than I expected, but a treasure nonetheless. I definitely got the warm squishies.

The Sugarcubes were completely perfect. They had such a wonderful energy and everything sounded great and they had an awesome setlist and seemed to be having so much fun. It was well worth the hassle it took to get here. I am so glad I made it. And I am so glad I got to experience it with Charity. It was really perfect. I’ll get pictures up as soon as I get back.

Tonight we went to the Blue lagoon and it was soooooo cold. It was a very windy night and the surface of the water just couldn’t compete. The pool was mostly lukewarm, but we ended up finding some hot spots.

Afterwards we had dinner at home and then IT STARTED SNOWING! It was the first snow of the season in Reykjavik. We walked down to the lake to take some pictures and visit the ducks.

Later we met up with Julius at his apartment (he’s the guy we met last time we were here that lives right next door). He had some friends over and we ended up all going to Sirkus. Being a Saturday night and all, it was completely packed, and the only reason we got in was because we were with a bunch of Icelandic guys. There was a line outside waiting to get it.

We stayed there for a few hours, danced with a really drunk, but totally fun girl, had a few beers, and then headed back to Julius’s around 4:00. I somehow lost my hat, scarf, and ear muffs in the club. They were all bundled into a ball sitting on top of my jacket and they just disappeared. We couldn’t find them anywhere. So sad!. But the scarf was made from Icelandic wool, so I figure it just somehow found its way home, and the hat was one I took from Charity, who took it from someone else, who took it from someone else, who took it from someone else, etc., so I guess it was time for it to move on as well. The earmuffs… well hopefully I can replace them. Earmuffs aren’t as easy to find as one might expect.

Now it’s 7:30 in the morning and I’m going to get some sleep. Pictures and video soon!
