Little Anne is in town and came over last night for a slumber party. We sat on the back deck and watched Rushmore and enjoyed evening treats. It was wonderful. There were no bugs and the temperature was just right. The hint of fall excites me as much as lightning and wind. I’m giddy with joy.
Tomorrow night we are having an “Alison and Osiris Might Be in Town and Stop By” Party. You’re invited.
Jared just asked me to take a break from painting and help him move the mouse cage outside. I assumed he was going to give it a good hosing down. Once outside and talking about cleaning projects, I was shocked to learn that he had liberated the mice. He set them free in a brush pile with piles of food. I really could not believe it. I’m still in shock.
Yes, I complained about the smell, and yes, their breeding was out of control, but geez - I wish he had told me he was doing that. I didn’t even get to say goodbye.
It’s so unlike him to just discard a pet like that. He fully intends on monitoring the brush pile and keeping it supplied with food. I know they are just mice, but I still feel weird about it.
Au revoir little meeces. Good luck out there.
There are a ton of movies out there that I read about that I want to see, but if it doesn’t play at the Naro, I miss it. I just forget to pay attention to what’s playing at the “regular” theaters.
I poked around the hamptonroads.com movie pages, looking to see if they had an rss feed that would update me on when new movies open in the area. They didn’t. And I couldn’t find any other site that provided that kind of info either.
So I emailed Gabe, my before-jared-estranged-himself-from-his-family not-technically-but-for-the-most-part brother-in-law, who I used to work with at hamptonroads.com, and asked him if anything like that existed. It didn’t, so he built me one.
Yay!
Now I’ll always know if a movie I want to see is playing in the area.
Labyrinth is getting a theatrical re-release. Yay!

I passionately hate ceiling fans with remote controls. Our kitchen fan hasn’t worked for a few months and then yesterday it came on by itself. Today it’s off again. Also today our bedroom fan decided to turn off. And I can’t find the remote.
The kitchen one is long gone. I threw it away one day cursing its pointlessness. The bedroom one should still be living in the house, but he’s hiding. The fact that I have to rely on that little thing to control my fan is really irritating. Isn’t a wall switch enough? I’m perfectly content with flipping a wall switch when I want to turn on a light or a fan.
From what I’ve read online, this is a common problem. Remote controlled fans and lights turn on and off randomly due to interference from other RF devices. And if you lose the remote, the only real solution is to buy a new fan.
I’m becoming more and more reclusive. The mosquitos have trapped me in. Bring an end to this season. I need fresh air.
I finally got around to watching Tiptoes the other night, after renting it four times previously and never actually watching it.
It contained my new favorite movie quote:
Marriage is for morons. It turns your lover into your relative.
GW’s got Post Road Pumpkin Ale out. It seems too soon, but the thought of fall makes me giddy. Summer be damned. I wish you would go away and never come back.
We sat outside from 10-11 trying to catch a glimpse of the Perseids. There was just too much city light. I went out again at 12:30, 2:00, and 4:00, but no luck.
We should have gone to Crystal’s house for the night. She gets serious star action out there.
