Sometimes I think about that time you got to see Brent and Merrick at a New Year’s party, and I still get jealous. I want to see Brent. I miss my cucumber (calzone).

My upcoming trip to NYC was originally planned because of the Magnetic Fields show at Town Hall on Thursday, Feb 21st. Then James discovered that Matmos is playing The Stone on Saturday night (and it’s only $10!). And today we learned of a Michel Gondry Exhibit promoting Be Kind Rewind that we can go to on Friday.

It’s going to be a very fast and fun-filled weekend.

Last Sunday night, Jared and I attended the Dresden Dolls show at the NorVa with Matt and Maria. It was the last show of the tour, and their last show playing together for a while.

It was quite a lot of fun. I love the NorVa. I think it is such a great venue, and it’s unfortunate that there aren’t very many acts that play there that I care to see. I always enjoy shows there.

The opening act was a band called Two Ton Boa. Maria made a comment at one point that the singer sounded like Grace Slick, and then the next song they played was a cover of White Rabbit. It was such perfect timing and so hilarious.

The Dresden Dolls did quite a bit of random covers as well. They opened with the first track off The Wall and closed the show with War Pigs and Stairway to Heaven. In between there was a Beastie Boys cover (Fight For Your Right) and some other “Creed” song that I kind of recognized.

There was a lot of their usual joking around and just general awesome rapport. They are one of my favorite bands to see live for that reason. I love it when you can tell that performers respect and admire each other.

I do hope that they decide to make more music together in the future. And I do hope that I get to see them again, preferably in a sit-down venue.

Last weekend I was reunited with my dear Alexia. I hadn’t seen her since our trip to Thailand almost two years ago!

We had a wonderful evening of drinking wine, eating yumminess, drinking wine, visiting with friends, and drinking wine.

I discovered that after 3:00 in the morning, Alexia turns into an evil ice cream bully and will steal everyone at the bar’s ice cream, convinced that it is better than her’s, until she has devoured it all.

I need a vacation. Let’s go somewhere. Far, far away.
