Kevin and I caught an episode of Curious George one morning, and it is totally my new favorite thing. Did you know that Curious George is funny as hell? We were cracking up. It has the best quotes ever.

Like:

Really cold water can change a monkey’s plans just like that.

At first George thought squirrels must really hate bowling.

George and Jumpy played nut hockey til the sun went down.

And let’s not forget Malena’s infamous, “You speak monkey!?!?!”

Be Kind Rewind Be Kind Rewind

While in NYC, James and I got to go to the Michel Gondry Be Kind Rewind exhibit at Deitch, and it was nothing like we expected. The front of the space was made to look like the video store from the movie, and in the back were all these different movie sets. You could borrow cameras from the gallery and make your own films, and then “rent” them from the video store. It was such a cute concept, and very well executed.

On Saturday we trekked over to Brooklyn to meet up with Nicole and we had the most delicious of lunches at Life Cafe. So, so, so good. It will become a mandatory stop on future visits.

We conveniently ran into Kiersten at the train station on our way back to Mahattan, and I got to enjoy her company for a few stops until we suddenly had to jump off and I barely got to kiss her and Nicole goodbye.

That night James and I went to The Stone to see Matmos perform. It was very disappointing. Not Matmos, they seemed just lovely, but the environment was no good.

The website implied that there were 2 shows, an 8:00 and a 10:00. We got there around 9:00 to scope it out beforehand, and there was a “Sold Out” sign on the door. We walked around the corner to have some drinks until the next show. When we went back, it was still so packed that we were cramped in the very back, and it was quite apparent that no one from the previous performance had left. So we were in a space as big as my upstairs, squished like sardines, and hardly able to see a thing. Plus, some boy kept leaning on me, and would not quit it out. I was very miserable and uncomfortable and was glad when it was over.

Sunday involved an encore visit to El Cantinero, and the the usual insane/crappy/adventurous bus ride home.

I never want to come home after visiting my boys. I need to make an effort to go up every month. I always have the best of times. It’s just expensive. Damn Bush Economy. I’m in a particularly sad mood right now over the outlook of this economy. I think it’s about to really hurt me.

Welcome

I went out Wednesday night to view the eclipse, but it was too cloudy because it had started snowing! I got to see it later while it was partial, but missed the total eclipse.

I left for NYC that night on the bus. Bus rides are not so much fun, but I kept waking up and seeing snow, so it was okay. Do you know how excited snow gets me?

I got to James and Kevin’s place around 8 in the morning. They had made a cute little bed for me. James had to go to work, so Kevin and I laid around for a while, and then went out to tromp around town.

Last night we went to Town Hall to see The Magnetic Fields. Our seats were absolutely perfect. We were in the front row of the the balcony, near the center. The show was everything I expected. Stephin Merrit was dry and cocky and as cute as a bear. They played two 45 minute sets, with a 15 minute intermission.

The two girls behind us were taking photos, and I hope they remember to email me some. And I have yet to find a set list online.

After the show, Kevin was hosting a party called Ruby at a place called Ultra. We only stayed for an hour. I was one of about 5 biological girls there. Oh, and when we were leaving some guy came up to me and started spouting a whole bunch of nonsense. He was like an auction announcer guy, he was talking so fast. And all I really picked up on was “beautiful”, “leaving”, and “europe”. He stopped talking and looked at me for a response. I told him that it was a lot to take in and I missed a big chunk of it, and then he started licking my cheek. Mmmm hmmm. True story.

We left the club around midnight and it had started snowing! Again, excitement overload for Atlanta. We went to a bar down the street with a friend of their’s called Jeff. And then we headed back to Harlem and played in the snow, and ate serious junk food at a diner. I had a vanilla milkshake and a grilled tomato and cheese. There was about 2 inches of snow at this point. It was pouring snow.

We ended the evening with our usual singing and dancing revelry. It snowed until noon today. And now we’re gonna head out and play in twelve hours worth of snow and dine at our beloved El Cantinero.

Jenga Party

Saturday night I went with Megan and Amy and The Boys to see Margaret Cho and Ian Harvie at The NorVa. It was hilarious, for sure, but the best part of the evening was after-midnight Drunken Jenga Slumber Party! Did you know that Jenga is THE BEST GAME EVER?!?! Well, it is.

We couldn’t get enough of it. Amanda and I are totally hooked and we are planning another one for March 8th.

Step One

Went up to Richmond yesterday to see Brandon and get started on my new tattoo. I am so pleased with how it is turning out. I just love it so. I’m hoping it will only take 2 more sittings. I go back up in March for more fun and pain. Can’t wait!

After the tattoo I went and hung out with CvT for a bit, and then had dinner with Indy and Paul. It was such a great day.

And tonight is Drunken Jenga Slumber Party night, wheee!

The best part is about 2:15 into it, when this little kid falls over and then tries to start moshing. He’s the total winner.

We were attempting to send a V-day pic to OJ – flicking him off, naturally. But Taphouse was too dark for cell phone pics, and we when we tried to take this one, Sean joked about flashing tits and we laughed so hard (cuz we don’t have any to flash).
