Firewater is playing Portland Jun 4th at the Doug Fir and Chapel Hill June 15th at Local 506. I insist that you guys go. You will not regret it. Albee and I saw them play while we were in Brooklyn and it was so good that we are gonna go see them in D.C. too with CvT.
(aph - two words… TAMIR MUSKAT)
I just stepped outside long enough to change the bulbs in the two back porch lights and I have nine new bug bites to show for it.
There just wasn’t any way I could resist. Look at how precious it is.
It hit me during the middle of work tonight that it’s my last night working with Kristina. Sad face. So I ran across the street and got two beers so that we could toast goodbye. I’m sure gonna miss her….
Theresa and I are the only ones that remain of the old school Naro crew.
After driving all the way to Charlottesville to try Love, I come home and it’s on tap at Taphouse. It tasted like someone had dropped candy in my beer. It has such an intriguing flavor.
Crystal and I left DC area Saturday afternoon and headed towards Richmond for Tattoo Double Date. Brandon was super exhausted and only worked for about an hour on my tree roots. I didn’t really care. I’m content with it taking as long as it has to take. I go back up June 13th. It gives me an excuse to visit Richmond once a month and see CvT and Indy & Paul and attempt to get veggie burgers at Ellwood.
On our way back to Charlottesville, we pulled off for gas and discovered this weird park thing called Field Trip To The Past. We’re totally going to have a picnic there this summer.
We went to Mellow Mushroom for dinner for our planned Calzones & Love date. Unfortunately, there was no Love to be found, but our calzones were oh so delicious.
We intended to go home and drunk MySpace people, especially my little California calzone, but instead we just went home and got drunk.
Crystal’s house is definitely my home-away-from-home. I have the best of times every visit we get.
(ps - c, i drove through downpours and graduation traffic only to find that finch was lacking in cuteness. boo hoo)
Crystal and I drove up to her dad’s house Friday to see DeVotchKa play at 9:30.
We had the most delicious pupusas for dinner at this hole in the wall called Maxwell’s. It was like a disco bar/cafeteria in there, and we were the only girls. The waitresses wore the best outfits - black halters, white shorts, shimmer hose, and black boots. And they fawned all over us. I honestly think that establishment hadn’t seen a non-workstaff girl in years. It was mostly dirty ol’ men in there.
We decided to be Maxwell’s girls for Halloween, shimmery hose and all.
The show was amazing, naturally. We got there just as the openers were finishing and were able to get right up front for Basia. DeVotchKa played the same set as the night before, but you will hear no complaints from me.
It was weird after the show to think that my DeVotchKa traveling-groupie stint was over. It sure was fun while it lasted.
Crystal and I went back to her dad’s place after the show and sat around laughing until we passed out on the couch. Then Malena scared the shit out of us at 5:00 in the morning by screaming out and we woke abrubtly to see her standing at the top of the stairs crying and staring at us.
Thursday night’s DeVotchKa show was the second best DeVotchKa show I have ever seen (San Diego show at Casbah still holding the #1 spot).
I got to Richmond around 8:30 and CvT and I went to 821 for drinks and snacks before the show. We decided to take a cab down and ended up waiting 40 minutes, which caused us to miss Basia’s set. I wasn’t too terribly upset because I knew I would see her the next night, but I think Chris would have liked her.
We got to the show just after DeVotchKa started. Toad’s Place was quite impressive and has become a new fave venue. I wasn’t very sad at first about missing next month’s Gogol show, but now I’m trying to think of a way to work it in. I should like to see them there. The sound was awesome and it was a good space and while definitely new and classy and Shockoe, it was still very comfortable.
DeVotchKa put on such a good show, and CvT fell in love with them right away. My heart warmed to maximum capacity as The Last Beat of My Heart began to play and Chris looked at me with familiarity and I said, “Yes! Siouxsie!” He is such a cutie pie, I do love him so.
The most amazing part of the show was the crowd. It was such a good crowd, not an asshole in sight (which is quite a gasp coming from a richmond show). Everyone was so in love and enamored and the band was giving it so hard and taking it all right back and it was just the best!
After the show we met up with Nikki and Gabe and headed back to the Fan for late night drinks and snacks. We ended up at Avalon, where I randomly ran into Alex Lira, an old Norfolk buddy. It was such a highlight.
Once we were filled with many delicious snacks and beers and shots and friend love, Chris and I went back to his place for relax time. Poor CvT, he had to work the next day at 8 and I kept him up til 4 playing, but it was so worth it.
It was an amazing, amazing night. I am so in love with life at this moment.
