Spent a very interesting day in Hampton yesterday. (Actually, it is impossible to go to Hampton and not come back with some crazy tale). I got to see Dana Parker, went to the beach and got a sunburn, met a girl I used to babysit, saw Genny and the brood (even saw Scott), went to Harpoon Larry’s for happy hour, and heard all kinds of unbelievable stories that never fail to shock and amuse.

Then Albee and I went to see Adventureland at the Naro (boring!), had after-dinner drinks at Still, and then somehow ended up at a crap wannabe tiki bar listening to horrid music and watching TJ flirt with a completely undesirable girl.

It was a weird day, but I mostly had fun, and it ended nice. ;-)

Petey Petey

This is Pete. He’s been staying with me while his person, Katie, is out of town. He’s pretty cool. I like to move him around the house so we’re always hanging out. He eats funny little pellets. Seems boring to me, but I guess so does living in a bowl. Supposedly he does tricks, but I think he’s still a little shy. He does stick his fish lips above the water sometimes and it makes me laugh. I told him we’ll lounge around one night and watch episodes of Pete & Pete together. I think he’ll like that.

It’s been a long, dark winter, and I’m ready for some fresh air. May is once again shaping up to be a month of change and excitement. I seem to be starting an annual tradition. Lots of good movies are coming, a visit from Sandi, a (most-likely and much-needed) visit with Crystal, alone time, and a trip to New York are all on the books.

And June’s already got PJ Harvey, DeVotchKa and David Byrne, Chris & Lisa’s wedding, and MY BOYS ARE COMING TO TOWN. Oh man, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I need to be around a group of awesome boys right now. I’m experiencing a dreadful shortage.

I’m counting down the days. Time to celebrate the summer of “for now.”

(also, i really need to get to work on that phoenix tattoo)

Lars Von Trier is returning to his creepy movie roots, and I am so excited to see what he has in store. Not that I didn’t love watching him torture Björk and Nicole Kidman, but Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe living in a forest possessed by Satan… oh yes, yes, yes!

A movie almost exclusively featuring Sam Rockwell (even sometimes two Sam Rockwells)? YES, PLEASE.

Both Santigold and Gogol Bordello are playing the NorVa this summer. Seems so odd, but may be a good sign that appealing acts will start to play here.

Still debating on whether or not to go see Chicha Libre and Dengue Fever next weekend in Richmond. I think I should. I haven’t seen Chris VanTassell in a while and I know we would have so much fun.
