I recently acquired two new beauties for my collection, an Argus C3 and a Brownie Holiday. The Argus was a birthday present, and I found the Brownie Friday in New York. The Brownie is the size of a cupcake, it is just too precious.

Wayne Martin Belger makes the most awesome 4”x5” pinhole cameras I have ever laid eyes on.
This one is called Third Eye and is made from a 150 year old skull of a 13 year old girl.
He has also constructed cameras using a baby’s heart, HIV+ blood (using the blood as a red filter, omg he rules), bug parts, antlers, and many other wonderful and random parts.
If Jared and I were to hop in a time machine, go back to 1964, and produce and nurture a spawn, it would totally be this guy. He is completely killing me right now. I am coveting like a maniac.
Yeah, that red hurt just a little.
After tattoo date we headed up to Charlottesville to see Dave’s show at The Bridge, where I got to give kiss-kiss-kisses to my Meechie Monster. We walked around the Mall area a bit to see some other First Friday shows, and I spotted a Polaroid “Swinger” Land Camera in the window of a little antiques store. So exciting! It was only $15, could I leave it there?
Polaroid is discontinuing the 80 series films. Damn it. Now I have to stock up. I hate the death of film.
Speaking of cameras, Nikon just introduced a slew of new Coolpixes - the S7, S7c, S8, S9, and S10 (plus two new L’s).
The S7c sent me into a fit of late night drooling excitement.

I was so close to buying a P3 the other day. I love my S1, but the 400 max ISO really bothers me. I hate that all of the Coolpixes have a 400 max ISO. What’s a girl to do in low-light situations? The P3 wasn’t ideal, but it was an improvement. It has the new Coolpix Vibration Reduction feature, and it’s wireless, but it’s also a chunk bigger than the S1, and not nearly as sexy.
Rob asked me that same night my opinion on the S5 because he was thinking about getting one. I told him I would go home and look it up because I wasn’t too familiar with that model.
And then I saw it. The glorious S7c. The point and shoot I’ve been waiting for. 1600 ISO. Vibration reduction. Wireless. Email pics directly from the camera. It’s a half inch wider than my S1, but other than that… perfect.
Now it needs to hurry up and go on sale.

Linda gave me $1000 to spend for my birthday since she’s not here to celebrate it with me. I figured I’d spend it in Paris, but I didn’t see much I wanted. (I only bought 5 cds!) So I decided to splurge and get myself a DSLR.
I’ve halfway wanted one for a while, although never bad enough to actually go out and buy it. But since my Flickr addiction has now taken over, I decided that I just had to get one.
So I went to BestBuy last night right after work and got myself the Nikon D50, Nikon’s new entry-level DSLR. I’ve read some good reviews on it the past few months, and I liked a lot of the features it has (especially the 1600 ISO).
My first impression when I pulled it out of the box was that it is so…. big. And plastic. I will never understand manufacturers’ obsession with making cameras out of plastic, but whatever. It feels very comfortable in the hand, and has a nice weight to it. It’s really fast too. Ready to go as soon as you turn it on.
It came with an 18-55 mm lens (equivalent to a 27-82.5 mm lens on a 35mm camera). It uses an F mount, so it’s compatible with all of my old Nikkor lenses. The auto-focus thing took me a few minutes to get used to. I’ll be using my old manual focus lenses much more than the included one, I’m sure.
I still have a lot of playing around to do, but so far I’m happy with it.
Thanks, Mom! I’ll be sure to show her when she gets back what she bought me for my birthday. LOL!
(any guesses on how many cameras i now have?)
