insight

Honda showed off the new Insight Concept at the Paris Motor Show on October 4th. I don’t like it one bit. It’s huge and looks just like a Prius. What was wrong with the old Insight? Nothing I tell you! It was cute and perfect. Bring it back, please?

I bet it will be an automatic, too. The Insight was the only manual transmission hybrid Honda made. I can’t drive automatics. I do not like them.

Let’s hope the CR-Z turns out okay.

Wayne Martin Belger makes the most awesome 4”x5” pinhole cameras I have ever laid eyes on.

This one is called Third Eye and is made from a 150 year old skull of a 13 year old girl.

He has also constructed cameras using a baby’s heart, HIV+ blood (using the blood as a red filter, omg he rules), bug parts, antlers, and many other wonderful and random parts.

If Jared and I were to hop in a time machine, go back to 1964, and produce and nurture a spawn, it would totally be this guy. He is completely killing me right now. I am coveting like a maniac.

Today was a serious Tom Waits day around these parts. Something about the sweltering heat and humidity. It’s just the perfect soundtrack.

He makes me wish I was sitting on the porch of a grand ol’ plantation home drinking spiked lemonade, my thin cotton dress clinging to my sweat, listening to him croon the night away and tell tales of far-off lands.

Oh yes. He makes the summer slightly more bearable.

I’ve been having a love affair with White Chalk all weekend. We took a little break, but decided to rekindle our relationship. It’s been wonderful. I’ve been singing at the top of my lungs in delight.

I wish I could still play the piano.

knitted_organs

These knit organs, by Sarah Illenberger, are the absolute cutest things I’ve seen all week.

In a dream world, I would be a traveling medical examiner, cutting into dead bodies all over the world…

I have been intrigued by Nate Hill’s Chinatown Garbage Tours for the past few years (for obvious reasons). Apparently tomorrow night, June 26th, is the last one he is hosting. I wish I could be there…

How many years have I been talking about this? Time for another trip to France…

February 8th, 2008

I was really upset last night when I found out that this week’s Film Forum movie is Southland Tales. They seem to always show the movies I want to see when I go out of town.

But I just discovered that my current obsession, Thao Nguyen, is playing in Charlottesville tomorrow night, so if Crystal and I go to that, it will totally make up for me missing some silly ol’ movie.

Thao is also playing in Norfolk Monday night and I am so ready.

Oh Honda, please make a CR-Z with a manual transmission. Or bring back the Insight.
