The day started off right with a plate of chilaquiles rojo and a refreshing bottle of mineral water.
OJ, Lisa, and Chris were still feeling a bit hung over after breakfast, so I went out on a hike by myself. I got lost in a neighborhood and it was really nice taking in the sites and smells. I met up with them later and then we headed to Luke & Matt’s to await our luggage and the wedding.
All of the original wedding plans were altered by the torrential downpours. Rivers were running through the streets. We piled into cabs and went sliding down the narrow streets in one of the most exciting/scary cab rides ever.
The wedding was held in the amazingly beautiful house Kevin and Rachel were staying in. The houses around here are to die for. I could have swooned over that kitchen for hours.
I need to live in Mexico.
Since it was still raining after the wedding, we all piled into cabs again to head to Nirvana for the reception. They served us ridiculous amounts of food and alcohol there. I had some delicious wine and of course a handful of margaritas. Our waiter was so on top of it. He stopped by and asked if I wanted a new drink, and I said eventually since I still had a third of mine left. Then not two seconds after I finished, he appeared with a new one and set it in front of me and said, “Eventually.” It was the cutest.
For dinner I had watermelon gazpacho and hibiscus quesadillas. Hibiscus quesadillas. Seriously. That shit was so good. I need to get in the kitchen on that one.
Lisa and I got on this whole “face” kick after dinner and had people pose for whatever face we called out. It made for some awesome photos. (Which I can’t upload yet because the connection here just isn’t having it)
We all went back to Matt & Luke’s afterwards. The boys were put on alcohol duty, and had some crazy adventure buying from some hole in the wall. Literally.
It was a fun day, especially since I got to shower and have my belongings and eat hibiscus quesadillas.
Oh August, it’s looking like you are going to end up being the best month ever. Not only do I get Mexico play date with OJ, a long-awaited visit from my Rob, Brooklyn reunion with Albee, CvT Brooklyn date, and Pumpkin’s b-day bash - but now I can add to that RVA-getaway with Crystal this Saturday.
And I just read that Busdriver is touring with People Under The Stairs and Flobots, and will be playing The National this Saturday!
I didn’t even ask Crystal’s permission, I just went ahead and bought the tickets and know that we will have the best night.

James made a last-minute trip to the area. I got to spend Saturday night with him at his dad’s house. It’s been years since I’ve seen all of his family. It was really nice.
Hopefully I will see him again tonight or tomorrow before he heads back to the city.
I was sitting on the deck the other day with Malena and Aspen while they were playing on the little laptops. I asked Malena if both of the laptops were hers, or if one was Aspen’s. She said they were both hers, that she liked collecting computers.
I told her I loved collecting computers, too, and that I had three at home. She found that very exciting and hopes to have three herself one day soon.
Just warning you.
Gee, she really is a miniature me. Except she talks way more and likes attention.
Tonight I had a few people over in celebration of li’l Pony cutting my grass. He agreed to do that and change my car belts in exchange for dinner. I hate to play the pathetic girl role, but I get bug bites way too bad to be bothered with grass cutting. Plus, Pony’s fave food is hot dogs, so I totally get the best end of the stick.
Amongst my dinner guests, I met a boy who is moving to Buenos Aires the same week I’ll be traveling there. How exciting! We shall have a play date for sure.
I also learned tonight via Toggle Switch that Hieroglyphics and Blue Scholars are playing Va Beach Friday night. I shall be happily attending that show post tattoo with my Secret Lover.
edit: Oh Wait! It’s July 27th, not this Friday! Oh well, more time to plan…

I was recently pouting about the fact that I haven’t left this stupid country since LAST MARCH, and how bored and antsy I have become, and how depressing this economy is, and then OJ saved the day by inviting me to a wedding in Mexico in August. He is my wedding date for life.
We’ll be in San Miguel de Allende for a week, and then when we return, my Rob! my Rob! my Rob! is visiting. And then I’ll have the most tremendous of reunions in NYC and will celebrate National Spumoni Day in the most gluttonous way I know how.
August is going to be a month of hugging and kissing and loving for sure.
Now I just have to plan that fall trip to Argentina….
This week has been awesome so far, and it just keeps getting better. I woke up today to perfect summer weather. High of 80, sunny, blue skies. 80 is about as hot as I can stand, and this past week, with temps getting to 110, has been too much to bear. But today is lovely and deserves a song (or 10).
The first song is dedicated to aph, but the whole thing is dedicated to cvt.
- THE BPA - Toe Jam (feat. David Byrne & Dizzee Rascal)
- Galactic - Second And Dryades (feat. Big Chief Monk Boudreaux)
- Lyrics Born - Over You (feat. Joyo Velarde)
- Kassin 2 - Tranquilo (Super Stereo Sound System)
- Sage Francis - Sea Lion (feat. Saul Williams)
- Tom Waits - Clap Hands
- Butter 08 - Butter Of 69
- Federico Aubele - Corazon
- Fela Kuti & The Africa 70 - Gbagada Gbagada Gbogodo Gbogodo
- Firewater - Hey Clown
I hope you are okay. I love you.
edit:
James - I love you, I love you, I love you, and I’m thinking of you every second and can’t wait until you are better and I can talk to you.
