Yeah, that red hurt just a little.
After tattoo date we headed up to Charlottesville to see Dave’s show at The Bridge, where I got to give kiss-kiss-kisses to my Meechie Monster. We walked around the Mall area a bit to see some other First Friday shows, and I spotted a Polaroid “Swinger” Land Camera in the window of a little antiques store. So exciting! It was only $15, could I leave it there?
Only one person in the world has the amazing ability to get me to eat 7-11 nachos at 4:30 in the morning.
Who do you turn to when you feel like drinking wine from the bottle and singing DeVotchKa at the top of your lungs and giggling and kissing the night away?
Rob Seeley, that’s who.
I have absolutely no love for him at all.
It’s all peely and itchy and grody at the moment, but I’m loving the intensity of that blue.
Just think, by this time next year maybe I’ll be done with this thing.
Backs take FOREVER. But it’s worth it.

I was recently pouting about the fact that I haven’t left this stupid country since LAST MARCH, and how bored and antsy I have become, and how depressing this economy is, and then OJ saved the day by inviting me to a wedding in Mexico in August. He is my wedding date for life.
We’ll be in San Miguel de Allende for a week, and then when we return, my Rob! my Rob! my Rob! is visiting. And then I’ll have the most tremendous of reunions in NYC and will celebrate National Spumoni Day in the most gluttonous way I know how.
August is going to be a month of hugging and kissing and loving for sure.
Now I just have to plan that fall trip to Argentina….
I arrived in Portland Wednesday morning shortly before 11:00. Rob, Carrie, Sam & Lu met me at the airport and from there we headed back to Base Camp. Lounged around for a bit, had yummy lunch and the best gingerbread gelato, played with Lu, showered, then headed over to little Anne’s.
Anne and I had much needed naps and then we headed out to the show. I was so excited that Basia opened, because I thought she was just doing the East Coast shows. We got there just in time to get right up front and center (my favorite spot). The show was awesome, of course, but it was soooooooo hot in there. By the end of it, Anne and I were dreaming of nothing but refreshing bubbly water. DeVotchKa played a perfect set, and I am beyond thrilled that I still have 2 more shows to see.
Yesterday was the grand Old Town Adventure with Rob, Jessica, and Emeka. We made a brief stop at Union Station, where it was very hot, and that’s about it. Then we wandered over to Chinatown and Jessica guided us to House of Louie and we had the world’s best lunch. Seriously, it was so good. I don’t even like Chinese food and I loved it. Emeka even ate chicken feet! Okay, I’m kidding, it was actually quite gross, but we had a blast nonetheless discussing it’s utter grossness.
Rubbo, Tony, and Beth met up with us at House of Louie, and then we all headed over to the China Gardens. Had a leisurely stroll amongst the pretty, then off for more exploring. After Emeka had shown us everything there was to see in Old Town, we settled at Kells for happy hours treats.
From there we migrated to North Mississippi and had drinks at Amnesia, where we were joined by Carlyn and Scott Chapman. I had a delicious summery brew called Castle Blond. We soon met up with Charlotte, Zero, and Carrie and moved onto a new bar.
From there it was all hugs and drinking and good talks and yummy dinner and long strolls and Thriller and awesome bus drivers.
I’ve been staying at Anne’s the past few nights and we have fun at night lying around and passing out to movies. She’s at the gym right now and when she gets back we’re gonna go out exploring. Tonight I’m moving to Base Camp where I will be for the remainder of the trip, and Emeka is taking us out for a Micro Brewery Adventure!
I’m so excited by all the faces I have seen so far, and even better, I still have four more days of this.
(Bonus awesomeness - Charlotte and Zero will be in NYC the same weekend as me. More love!)
Last Saturday Crystal and I saw Kid Koala perform at Satellite Ballroom in Charlottesville. It was quite enjoyable.
There was some new stuff, some old stuff, some Björk stuff; it was great. Seeing DJs live can be hit or miss. It’s ones like Kid Koala that really make it worth it. This is a man who totally loves what he does, and it shows. He was having as much fun on stage as we were watching him. Calorie burning all around.
There were so many awesome points to the night, but the one that stands out the most in my head was his mix of Moon River. I wish I had captured that one, but I was too mesmerized.
I remember when we saw Mike Relm, telling him afterwards that he reminded me of an American Kid Koala. After seeing Koala live, I stand by it even more. They obviously grew up listening to the same music. They play so much of the same/very similar stuff. Which, of course, didn’t bother my ears one bit. Tribe, Pharcyde, Björk, Deltron, Burroughs, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin. All the good stuff.
His encore snuck a bit more Björk in, which I was quite pleased by. I’ve got a bit of the Björk fever right now.
The next day, Crystal and I headed over to the Kluge vineyard for a Sunday of wine (despite Malena’s protests). It was yumsville. It was such a perfect and beautiful day in Charlottesville for a drive. Chilly, sunny, trees blooming. It hate being the driver on days like that. I just want to look at everything. I had to sneak a video in while driving, just to share how perfect it was. I’m Toonces.
There’s a new Roomba coming out soon. He’s designed for tougher jobs, like nuts and bolts and shop debris. Or maybe tumbleweeds of kitty fur. Or crumb spray.
Either way, he’s yellow and black, and he will be mine. At only $130, how can I resist?
(it does concern me just a bit that he is so cheap. it’s not like the other roombies have dropped in price)
This will bring our household Roomba count to 4. Yay robots!
