Today was a serious Tom Waits day around these parts. Something about the sweltering heat and humidity. It’s just the perfect soundtrack.
He makes me wish I was sitting on the porch of a grand ol’ plantation home drinking spiked lemonade, my thin cotton dress clinging to my sweat, listening to him croon the night away and tell tales of far-off lands.
Oh yes. He makes the summer slightly more bearable.
This week has been awesome so far, and it just keeps getting better. I woke up today to perfect summer weather. High of 80, sunny, blue skies. 80 is about as hot as I can stand, and this past week, with temps getting to 110, has been too much to bear. But today is lovely and deserves a song (or 10).

The air around here has been filled with smoke on and off for the past week from the North Carolina fires. I’m over it. It’s really bad right now. I’m in the office and I’m coughing away. I do not look forward to having to go outside any time soon.

I just stepped outside long enough to change the bulbs in the two back porch lights and I have nine new bug bites to show for it.
Today’s the kind of day where I can really appreciate having a desk by a window. It’s gray and rainy and blustery and I’m completely hypnotized.
The few snow flurries we’ve had over the past two weeks have been nice and all, but nothing significant. And they just turned to rain within an hour. But waking up this morning (and you know my mornings don’t start ’til 10 or 11) and seeing temps in the low 20s is awesome. Noticing that the creek was frozen over was even better.
It’s supposed to snow again tonight, and with how cold it was yesterday and today, hopefully it will amount to something.
