Today we got a call from a lady asking what was currently showing. After being read the movie list, she asked, “Are any of those films metaphysical? Will they move me spiritually?”

The look on T’s face was classic. She told her no and asked her if she had meant to call the A.R.E. The lady responded, “I need to see a traditional metaphysical film that will move me today at your cinema.”

Those damn what-the-bleepers drive me nuts.

For the past two weeks at work, every time I go to the bathroom, I run into the same lady. Every time. It’s so funny. We just crack up as soon as we see each other.

Today’s the kind of day where I can really appreciate having a desk by a window. It’s gray and rainy and blustery and I’m completely hypnotized.

About the time Jared ran into Supergirl and an alpaca at work? Magic.

Today I got my first junk fax. Some ad for health insurance. I didn’t even know there were junk faxes.

July 24th, 2006

I woke up at 9 this morning to the sound of the doorbell ringing. Jules went to see what it was, and surprise, surprise, it was Mrs. Fed-Ex delivering my new 13″ MacBook! The email said it would be coming on the 31st, but it was wrong-a.

My first impression was that it was SO HUGE. 13″ widescreen is way bigger than 12″ 4:3. I feel like I’ve got a 15″ PowerBook now. I need to set it next to KJ’s so I can feel good about it being small again.

I have been nervous about its arrival. It was definitely an impulse buy. I’m not so sure about this Rosetta business slowing things down, but so far I haven’t experienced any real problems. I love the super bright screen, and the Airport picks up way better than the PowerBook.

The real test will be Boot Camp. I’ll save that for tomorrow.

After the Mac morning I went to work with Linda. Work today consisted of getting my first ever pedicure, then a trip to the drug store, followed by lunch at Moe’s.

Pedicures are my new favorite thing. I cut my toenails on purpose last night, because I hate it when people cut and file my fingernails for me, so I figured toenails would be even worse. She still filed them though, first thing, which was bordering on unbearable, but I made it through with fists clenched. That shit does not feel nice.

It was a rough start, but after that I got to soak my feet in a little mini hot tub. The soak was followed by a good buffing, a cuticle pushing back thing, and a sugar scrub. Then I got a paraffin treatment, which was definitely the highlight. I liked the way my feet felt all covered in wax. I felt like a statue.

Once the paraffin was off, I was lotioned up a bit and then all done. I opted not to get my little toesies painted. Mostly because the color selection was not so hot. Corals, and pinks, and reds, and such. Yuppie colors.

She told me that I had surprisingly nice feet for never having had a pedicure before. That’s me. Surprisingly nice feet.

Immediately after the pedicure, I just felt kinda so-so about the whole experience. Getting all lotioned up and then having to put your shoes back on (summer - no socks) isn’t really the best experience ever. I was slipping around in there.

But here’s what did it - Back in Linda’s car I was reading her latest copy of First (she ALWAYS has that mag in her car), and there was a page about recommended foot products. One of them was this buffer thing for nail ridges. It said that nail ridges were caused from everyday stress to the nails - high heels, dropping things on your toes, cramped shoes, etc. No big deal - but you can buff them away. I thought, “Hey, I’ve got those things on my big toes.” That’s when I reached down to feel them and… THEY WERE GONE! My nail ridges had been buffed away!

Oh happy day, I was so excited, and right then and there declared pedicures the best thing ever.

I wrote Marie a letter expressing myself, she freaked out (actually they both did). They asked me to leave, so I’m going to stay with Winnie in Pont Aven. It’s so great Atlanta! I have control of myself now! Actually, it’s funny because I have the power now (the power of knowledge and voice) and Marie is scared shitless of me. She’s trying to go all psycho and put the fear back in me, but it’s not working!!! Except that I still didn’t sleep very well last night. I think that’s just the atmosphere.

I got the job that starts in September. I met the family yesterday. They’re like the complete balancing opposite of the situation I’m in now. It felt so calm there and they were really sympathetic to my situation. You should see their house! It’s totally me. It’s decorated with warm and earthy colors. My room is on the top floor and I have a great view out of my sunny slanted window thingy. The neighborhood feels really lively and friendly. The kids are really cute and shy. They don’t speak much english at all, so it’s going to be a lot of work at first. That’s ok because I like to work. For people who aren’t trying to make a slave out of me, anyway.

I’m going to miss the hell out of the kids here. I love them. I sure hope they make it through their childhood without much damage.

October 15th, 2003

My first day of work went pretty well I think. It was just A LOT of orientation type stuff, still a bit overwhelming. I hope to settle into it soon.

I had to get a bank account today, which is still amusing the hell out of me. They only offer direct deposit!! I went to the credit union down the street and started a checking account. Yuck!! You know how much I hate banks.

I can’t wait to decorate my little office space. I need to get some cute push pins. Tomorrow is a definite Target run. Plus Julio broke one of the branches off my small tree so he has to fix it QUICK so I can have it to look at. Luckily, I got a spot in between the fluorescents, so they are not directly glaring. Maybe I can sneak a little x-mas light decor in there. I have tons of plugs.

Gabriel invited me to go out to lunch with him and Roger. You wouldn’t believe how many people commented to me on that. They said that I should be very honored because they never extend invitations to anyone. Apparently they have a secret little club going on.

So now I’m going to finish my little glass of wine and read some “Good Omens” before beddie-bye. Gotta wake up bright and early tomorrow. Then I have a Happy Hour date with Kristina!!!
